Kenewendo talks sustainable and high impact economic growth, jobs, jobs, jobs and poverty reduction

Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry held its Leadership Forum Retreat from the 27th- 29th May 2018 in Selibe Phikwe under the theme “Leading Economic Transformation, Looking Beyond 2018”. The purpose of this retreat was to reflect and review progress made by the Ministry and an opportunity for the new Ministers to provide strategic direction and guidance on the Ministry’s Annual Plans, Programmes, Initiatives and take stock of any new developments in Government Policy, Priorities and Initiative; and Alignment, Team building & Membership.

Giving a keynote address at the retreat, Honourable Minister Bogolo J. Kenewendo said that the Ministry needed to leverage on its strength as a team and wishes that it do so in a purposive APEX model. She highlighted that there was a problem of stunted Private sector growth especially Small Medium and Micro-Enterprises (SMMEs) which leads to sluggish economic growth.

“I order for us to get over this sluggishness, all Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and departments working on SMME development need to consolidate their efforts under this SMME APEX. There needs to be a clear work plan towards SMME development with a full understanding of every entity’s role and collective Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)”, she said.

In conclusion, the Minister said that the Ministry and its Parastatals have to function towards transformation of Batswana’s lives; by ensuring that there is sustainable and high impact economic growth, jobs and poverty reduction. She urged the MITI Leadership to put on their thinking caps in order to move the Ministry forward.
